FANNIE MAE

Fannie Mae is a GSE (government sponsored enterprise) chartered by Congress to provide liquidity, stability and affordability to the U.S. housing and mortgage markets. Fannie Mae operates in the U.S. secondary mortgage market. This means it does not make homes loans directly to consumers. Instead, Fannie Mae works with primary market partners, including mortgage bankers and mortgage brokers, to make sure they have sufficient funds to generate loans at affordable rates to qualified home buyers. Mortgage investments are funded through the use of debt securities in U.S. domestic and international capital markets.
